Internet Expenses and PDA

Please take note of the internal memorandum from Provost and Vice-President Academic Affairs, Graham Carr, regarding changes in the procedure for reimbursement of Internet expenses claimed as part of your Professional Development Allowance (PDA). You now have to use the regular online expense form to document your internet expenses (quarterly submissions are suggested). Claims, submitted to your department, will have to be approved by your chair and a refund will then be issued.

The deadline to submit Internet expenses expired last spring and, consequently expenses incurred after May 1, 2018, will be processed for reimbursement starting January 2019.  These expenses are now considered taxable benefits so the amount claimed will appear on your income tax slips. The first of these slips will be available in February, 2020 for the 2019 tax year. For the average CUFA member, these tax slips represent a tax liability that is close to 50% of the total annual Internet expense. In other words, approximately half of your annual internet costs will be reimbursed.
