FQPPU urges release of Professor Homa Hoodfar detained in Iran
Montreal, June 10, 2016 – The Fédération québécoise des professeures et professeurs d’université denounces the unjustified arrest of the Irano-Canadian anthropologist Homa Hoodfar, jailed in the Teheran’s terrible Evin prison, where political detainees are kept.
The FQPPU is highly worried about the charge of « cooperation with a foreign state against the Islamic Republic of Iran » held against this Concordia University professor, a world renowned expert on women’s role and sexuality in Islamic societies.
The FQPPU calls on the Iranian authorities to immediately release Dr Hoodfar and urges the Canadien government to use all diplomatic means at its disposal to secure her release and safe return to Canada.
Since 1991, the FQPPU reprensents the majority of regular professors from French and English language universities in Quebec.
